Delta Robot has unique design consisting Rotary or linear actuated arms connected to a common joints by their large sweeping arms. The name Delta robots came from its upside-down triangle shape while it is mounted overtop of the work floor area and often called Spider robots or parallel robots due to its architecture. The Delta robot has many advantages over its limitations in the industry and widely preferred for a pick and place applications to move smaller weights.
Delta robots are identified by their large active arms and unified design compare to other stationary industrial robots. Robots comprises Active and passive arm linkages with three to four Servo motors at the base of robots and on other side linkage connects with universal joint where gripper is attached to pick object and move to desire space. Delta robots arm carries parallel movement to maintain orientation and position of the end gripper. The robots are mounted on top of their base over production area vertically which gives significant advantage to manufacturer concern in space saving.
Delta robots over the many advantages carry some drawbacks and weaknesses in other areas. Design of delta robots doesn’t allow heavy payload to reach at specific speed. The cone shaped parallel work envelop makes smaller side to side and up down movement limits utilization in several range of applications in industry.
